Food photography from Montreal’s restaurants

Food is not only a daily need but it’s also a pleasure. Sure, when we are at home, we don’t care much about how the food looks, but when we go to a restaurant, part of the pleasure is the food presentation. The better it’s presented, the more we enjoy it.

Here are some photos I took while visiting several Montreal restaurants.

The one on top is Momo Sushi, on Saint-Denis Street, Montreal. It’s the most delicious vegan sushi I have ever tasted.

The following three photos are from UMÉ Japanese restaurant, in Saint Laurent, La Petit Italy.

As you can see, the food presentation is designed to stimulate all the senses of vision, taste, and feel.

Settings, Angle, Light

With food photography, you want to take your photo directly from the top or with a slight diagonal angle.

Since the photos will be with you holding the camera with your hand, the speed should never be slower than 1/60.
The aperture will be with a shallow depth of field since there is not much dept into the photo; a wide opening of the aperture allows more light into the sensor. The ISO should depend on the light conditions, but don’t be afraid to use the flash.
