Little Dog

Different Perspectives: Random Photos in Montreal

These photos were taking on Saint Laurent Street, Montreal. The street was closed to automobiles and was pedestrian-only. This is an annual event called “The Street Sale.” It’s a nice opportunity for Montrealers to leave the car in the garage, get out and walk, and support the local business.

From a low perspective

As a photographer, I am trying to practice with my camera as often as possible. On this day, my mission was to take photos from different perspectives.

For the first photo, the little dog, I got down to the floor and took the shoot from the dog’s eye level. This photo helps us understand what the world looks like from the vantage point of this little dog.

From eye level

Saint Laurent Street, Montreal, Street sale

To give you an idea of what the street looked like, I took this photo while walking. It was early and it was a very sunny day. At night, there are thousands of people just walking up and down the street, some of them shopping, many of them eating, but most of them just enjoying the pleasures of being a pedestrian.

Dog resting. Photo from above

I just stood almost on top of this dog and took the shot.

The dog is exhausted from walking and from the heat. Sometimes, you just have to take a break.

Sunflower facing down. Photo from below

This sunflower was tired too. I speculate that it lacked water and it was facing down.

I got below the flower and took a shoot pointing up.

Conclusion

The main goal of this exercise was to not fall into the trap of shooting everything at eye level. Instead, as photographers, we have to take the time to explore our subjects and see them from a different perspective.
